How We Use Securus Technologies for Catching Fugitives

Working on the fugitive task force is both a very rewarding and frustrating job at the same time. On one hand, it is so rewarding to take a dangerous fugitive off the streets and put them behind bars, but then you have the suspects who slip through the net and are impossible to catch. We had one such suspect who was really giving my team fits because he was not only impossible to catch, he was conducting business as usual right in front of our faces.

It seemed that each time we were about to close the net on this fugitive, somehow luck was on his side and he was simply gone before we could get him. When you have a network of friends helping you to stay off the radar, it can be a real struggle to gain some ground on these fugitives. For every officer on my team, the fugitive has a dozen eyes watching and reporting back so he can simply stay in the shadows without issues.

We were not having any luck with informants, so we heads to the jail to see if any of his friends would offer up some information. Talking to the police in jail is a bad thing, these inmates do not want to be labeled as rats. I discovered the jail recently updated the inmate call system, and the team at Securus Technologies was going to trail the corrections officers on the new LBS software for the phone system. I took part in the training because I was convinced the inmates knew something and I was going to get them to talk without them realizing it.

Days later the software picked up chatter between an inmate and gang leader on the outside who was harboring the fugitive. This lead proved to be a huge break that allowed us to apprehend the suspect without incident that week.
